Is the Governing Body really Jehovah's mouthpiece?
by dgp inon another thread, african gb member wondered whether the members of the governing body really believe what they preach.
and that led me to this thought:.
unless i misunderstood what i have read, the governing body claims that jehovah communicates with them and tells them what to do.

Are these things still frowned upon/banned?.
by zzaphod inthinking back, there were a few things i was told then, that now seem rather odd and petty.
i was wondering if these thing are common in the wts or was it just that my girlfriend at the time was a pioneer, and her father was an elder.
(so perhap a bit more "enthusiastic" than others).

Why do they make such a fuss over the most trivial everyday things?
3 reasons:
1. Control
2. Control
3. Control
Control every aspect of your life.

Progressive Insurance Woman
by RubaDub incan't think of her name right now (she's a comedienne), but i think i have had about enough with the progressive insurance ads.
they seem to be everywhere, all the time.. i guess there is a ton of money to be made when every other commercial on tv seems to be an insurance company hawking its products (progressive, geico, etc, etc, etc).. rub a dub.

Beards?
by Think About It ini'm new here and probably missed the latest discussion of the beard topic.

I always had a problem with the no beards policy, even questioning the "We do everything by the bible" BS. Every male in the bible had a beard, what is the problem. To follow the scriptures accurately, every male in the cong should have one too. Never got a straight answer, but african american brothers can have one if they claim that it is his costom, they can also have short hair or shaved heads. I cought all kinds of shit because I had a flat top hair cut. Would not be appointed as elder because of having one, if you were black it was no problem. I made a pretty big scene because of the double standards. I can show pictures of Scotts and Irish with beards, part of my custom too, but no, not permissable for me.

I had a gotee when I went to the last dist assembly in 06. The people who knew me looked at me like I had grown a 2nd head. Others thought I was new or studing, and asked all kinds of stupid questions. I loved the look on their faces when I told them I was baptized in 1980. I just had to go out with them knowing that I was out by the beard and saying that most of the teachings were non sense.

Mama will not be transfused
by voodoo lady ini've been a long-time reader of this site and have found it everything from informative to entertaining... but i'm now posting because i'm craving the ears (or eyes, i guess) of people who understand.. .
my mother was just last week diagnosed with an "ovarian type" cancer.
the oncologist discussed with her how far the cancer has already spread, and said she would operate immediately to remove as much of it as possible, but would not proceed if my mother resisted a transfusion as the risk of blood-loss will be too great.

Hi Voodoo Lady and welcome to the board.
Your mother sounds like mine. Even though they have to have doubts, they will probably never leave. They are comfortable and familiar with their way of life. They can't face that they were lied to for all those years, can't face the fact that they have wasted their life on these lies. Believing in lies is the only belief they have, to take that from her now, even if you could, would be devestating to her. I agree that optimisim and hope does help a person stay healthy or recover faster.
Best of luck to you and your mother.

Is it really okay for a JW to lie?
by dissed inbeen away from the wts for 13 years and noticed at jwn many are mentioning its now okay for jw's to lie, if....... its for the right reasons.
like misleading the jw's and worldy people about district convention parking.
to raise monies for the wts.

Dubs lie ALL the time, especially ELDERS. I got to know them so well that I could tell by their facial expressions and body language. Each and every one in my cong would lie, or avoid the questions that they did not want to answer. This is especially so if some want to appoint you to a position and others didn't want that to happen. The lies and half truths fly.

A "Brother" wore a WT logo tie tack today
by JerkhovahsWitless inafter the meeting, a few people came up to show me some fake love like the wt lesson instructed (this is my 4th meeting in a row in over a year of not going, yuck!!).
i noticed one of them was wearing a tie tack of the watchtower logo.
its ok to idolize, by wearing, the corporate symbol of a worldwide multi-billion dollar company, but a cross is wrong?

I'm sure the WT gets their cut from all sales. They are in desperate financial need you know.

Worldly friends on Facebook
by dgp insome people i know to be jw's have worldly friends as facebook friends.
i apologize for my ignorance, but, isn't this supposed to be socializing with worldlies?
if so, it seems many jw's are simply ignoring what the wts says.

It appears to me that the younger ones don't follow the loving admonition of the GB as far as non witness friends and that pesky internet thing. I have seen future wannabe and baptized dub kids with 350- 400 friends. Nowhere near half are fellow dubs. Maybe hounders haven't figured out how to use FB, or they keep their pages private, but if I saw their friends, so could an ingenoius hounder.
I'll revert back to my first thought, they just don't care/listen.
